Five Guys Burgers (Lake Mead Location)

I've been wanting to check out Five Guys Burgers for months now. Unfortunately, I was never in the right area at the right hunger level to venture forth. Luckily and very recently, the Foodie gods felt like putting one right down the street from me. So I no longer had an excuse and I figured I'd visit them on opening day.

This Five Guys Burgers is wedged in-between Firehouse Subs and Yogurtland in the old Create Burger pad on Lake Mead and Tenaya. Thankfully, Create is gone, I never had a good burger or experience there, so I was very hopeful for Five Guys to deliver a better casual dining experience.

The first thing I noticed when walking in was the open and inviting dining room. The second thing I noticed was the staff in the kitchen yelling different things in code to each other and the patrons. When my girlfriend and I entered I think I heard "Two in the door!". So apparently, there is a high energy level behind the counter in the open kitchen.

The path to the ordering counter is strewn with bags and bags of peanuts as well as open buckets of complimentary peanuts with paper trays. Gimmicky? Yes. Do I love shelled peanuts? Hell yes! After ordering, we sat down and I went to town on most of my tray of peanuts. The peanuts are good, and add a small level of fun you don't normally get in a burger joint.

It seems like all orders are made "to go" no matter what. Our burgers were wrapped in aluminum foil and were in a large paper bag along with the fries. We had the Cajun Fries which are fried in peanut oil. They were plentiful and good. They didn't have as much kick to them as I expected but they really went well with the house ketchup. They were seasoned with lots of spices and were fried a nice golden brown. Alone they're good, with ketchup they're damn good.

Bacon Cheeseburger. Those two words just belong together. I ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger with green peppers, mushrooms, and BBQ Sauce. When I received my burger I learned that these are all double burgers! The "Little" burgers are the single patties. So this thing was pretty massive. My burger was cooked to be well done as they state, but mine ended up being a little medium rare, which is fine by me, because that's the only way to have a burger. The bacon tucked away in this beast was great and thick, the mushrooms were good, the cheese was tasty and melty, and the buns were fresh. The BBQ sauce was pretty good, I just didn't really get enough on my burger, but there was enough overall to be noticed. All in all, this is a pretty good burger. Not the best I've ever had, but the best I think you can get from a casual dining establishment.

With 15 different toppings to choose from and one of those fancy super Coke dispensers, Five Guys Burgers may only serve a few items, but you can get a variety of choices each visit if you mix it up. I'm excited to go back and try a different topping combination as well as their hot dogs. Good thing Five Guys Burgers is now less than 5 miles from where I live!

6 Location
This location is in a pretty busy shopping center and located right next to 4 other dining options. Parking is always a bitch there.
8 The Décor
Open, inviting, and music playing, It's exactly enough without any fluff.
9 The Prices
Two of us ate for about $15, not too shabby. And did I mention the free peanuts?!
10 The Drinks
How do you beat 120 drink options?
9 The Food
The burger was very solid and the fries were great. If the hot dogs are similar in quality and taste, they have a great simple selection.
